Delivering tangible benefits and business value is now the number one priority of CIOs as the shift away from cost-cutting continues to gather momentum.
Figures from Gartner show that the majority of IT leaders now consider benefit realisation as their main priority, followed by lowering operational risks, and performance benchmarks. Despite fears surrounding cybersecurity, this was only ranked as the forth most important consideration, highlighting how pervasive the argument for driving business IT value has become.
“The survey findings highlight how cost optimisation has become a business-focused, continuous discipline that drives spending and cost reduction while maximising business value,” says Stewart Buchanan, research vice president at Gartner. Stewart believes that reducing costs is no longer enough, enforcing the point that organisations must reinvest to focus on value.
Business leaders must be bolder and creative to discover value. “(Successful IT leaders are) not just looking for easy wins, and are not put off by the complexity of an initiative,” concludes Stewart.
